Harbor North began life in 1972 at Battery Park Marina in Sandusky, Ohio, when Carolyn Roberts, "Mom," started the business as a broker selling used sailboats. Gradually, a store, sailing school, charter program, and new boat sales and service were added. In 1977 the facility in Huron became home.
Today, Harbor North is a complete boating facility with over 300 docks with power and potable water, a rack storage facility, haul in and out capability for boats to 30,000 lbs., a full-service department, sailing school, the largest and oldest charter business on Lake Erie, and a ships store called the Nautical Nook. Harbor North carries a large selection of new and used boats, specializing in sailboats. New boats including the complete Hunter line from Luhrs Marine Group, Hanse, a high-quality, reasonably priced boat manufactured in Germany, and Albin, a power boat designed for Lake Erie boating and especially fishing are offered. Many used boats are on the property; however, Harbor North brokers boats throughout the Lake Erie area.
Located approximately 1 mile up the Huron River, Harbor North is a well-protected marina. Because the river is a commercial port, deep water is never a problem. This makes it convenient for an easy days sail to the “Bass Islands” as well as Kelley’s Island and Pelee Island in Canada.
